ARC moves to strengthen racecourse management with Garrity appointment

The Arena Racing Company (ARC) has appointed Fraser Garrity as its new Group Racing and Operations Manager, with responsibility for overseeing training and general support to Clerks of the Course.

Covering ‘all elements of racing’, the new role will see Garrity work with Head of Group Racing – Racing & Operations, Charlie Moore, whilst looking to leverage his 28 years experience in the British racing space.

The new hire’s previous positions have included Racecourse Manager of Chelmsford City since its 2015 opening, Head of Racecourses at the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) with responsibility for racecourse operations teams and inspections, and Chair of the Joint Accreditation Board for Clerks of the Course.

“I am delighted to join the ARC team, and look forward to working closely with Charlie Moore and the Clerks across the various racecourses,” Garrity remarked.

“Throughout my years in racing across BHA and at racecourses, I’ve always worked closely with Clerks of the Course in all elements of their raceday operation, so this role which will involve much of the training of our new cohort will be ideal.”

In a further bid to strengthen its Clerks of the Course teams, the ARC has also announced the appointment of David Atwood at Southwell Racecourse, Richard Forthergill at Uttoxeter Racecourse and Isabelle Mangan at Lingfield Park Racecourse.

Mangan will take on the position of Racing Executive, whilst Atwood and Fothergill will undertake training, working with George Hill, Clerk of the Course. Atwood was Head of Racing and operations at Leopardstown between 2015 and 2020 and Operations Executive at Hungtington prior, whilst Fothergill also worked at the former course.

Managing Director of ARC’s Racing Division, Mark Spincer, said, “We are delighted to announce the appointment of Fraser to help support the team of Clerks across our group of racecourses. His experience, most recently at Chelmsford City Racecourse and from his time at BHA will be of real benefit for the whole team but especially the trainees that we have taken on.

“It has long been our ambition to make sure that we have one Clerk of the Course per site, and with various movements in recent months, we hope that we are now in a position to have a broad enough team to offer that.

“The experience of Charlie Moore and Fraser, alongside our regional Clerks, George Hill, Richard Aldous and Paul Barker will mean that all of our trainees have a real pool of expertise to tap into and learn from over the coming months.”

Additional changes will see John Holiday, Ben Hicks and Charlie Rees leave Leopardstown for Hereford Racecourse, Bath Racecourse and a central trainee Clerk role at the ARC respectively. Meanwhile, Stephanie Wethered will depart Lingfield to become Brighton Racecourse’s Clerk of the Course following her training.
