Flashscore ups Follow Player enhancements for basketball and hockey
Flashscore has expanded its ‘follow player feature’ (FPF) for popular basketball and ice hockey markets across its live score website and app.
The feature has been available since September as a Flashscore functionality and tracking tool for football markets with new utilities expanded to basketball and ice hockey audiences engaging with the NBA, NHL and other leagues.
The success of FPF tracking on football content saw “1.3 million fans are actively using Follow Player for football, averaging five players each, resulting in around 6.5 million player favourites.”
Bringing FPF to basketball and ice hockey upgrade allows users to add up to 100 of their favourite players and receive instant notifications on starting line-ups, in-game statistics, and post-match ratings. The development follows record engagement during the 2024/25 NBA and NHL seasons, which saw over 1.1 billion and 783 million match detail opens, respectively.
Tomáš Pondělík, Chief Product Officer at Flashscore, said: “Following the hugely successful launch of Follow Player for football, the move into basketball and ice hockey was a natural next step.
“What we’re witnessing is a clear evolution in fan behaviour audiences today demand immediacy, depth, and personalisation. They want to feel connected to the players who inspire them, not just the teams they support.”
The expansion cements Flashscore’s status as the world’s leading live scores and sports news app — combining real-time data, advanced player insights, and new fan-centric tools that redefine how audiences engage with sport.
It also marks a transformative year for the Czech-founded company, which in 2025 relaunched its heritage app and website (established in 2020) introducing a new interface, dynamic event snapshots, an integrated media centre, and enhanced betting analytics.
Pondělík added: “With Follow Player, Flashscore bridges that gap. We’re giving fans an effortless way to stay close to their favourite stars, backed by the fast, reliable, and non-intrusive notifications they expect from us. It’s about building a deeper, data-rich experience that reflects how modern fans follow sport.”
This year’s upgrades have created a new platform for Flashscore to serve its unprecedented global audience of 180+ million app downloads and over 100 million monthly users across 70+ websites, delivering essential sports coverage from 38 sports to enthusiasts in more than 50 countries worldwide.
