Gentoo Media CFO quits as listed firm continues to battle AI and iGaming headwinds

Gentoo Media’s Chief Financial Officer, Mads Haugegaard Albrechtsen, has resigned from his role at the company.

The former Deloitte Partner joined the Malta-based affiliate marketing firm only last year, in March 2025, just five months on from Gentoo’s legal split from Gaming Innovation Group (GIG) at the beginning of October 2024.

Gentoo said Albrechtsen has played an important role since that time, supporting the company’s strategic and operational transformation.

“We would like to thank Mads for his dedication and collaboration during a period of significant change for Gentoo Media,” said Chief Executive Officer, Jonas Warrer.

“Mads has played an important role in the transformation initiated in 2025, including strengthening financial processes, supporting the company’s strategic realignment and helping build a leaner and more focused organisation.

“As Gentoo Media now enters its next phase, we are maintaining a constructive dialogue regarding the upcoming transition and share a common commitment to ensuring a stable and responsible handover for the benefit of the Company, its employees and other stakeholders.”

Gentoo’s streamlining process

The company said it will ensure a smooth and responsible handover process, and is already in the process of hiring a new CFO as it continues to adapt to the impact which AI is having on the affiliate marketing industry.

It is now “entering its next phase from a leaner and more focused platform”, having cut its workforce from 404 to 292 employees and closed its operations in Norwich, England.

While the firm’s Q1 2026 results showed it had become a profitable business, being €219,000 in the black, revenues have declined as algorithms go through drastic changes, and the firm’s share price on the Nasdaq-Stockholm Exchange has dipped by 8.20 SEK in the past 12 months to 5.66 SEK – a drop of almost 60%.

Gentoo will now have another hurdle to climb in finding a new CFO as it continues to battle AI headwinds as well as the issue of tightening regulation across the iGaming industry.

On his departure, Albrechtsen said: “I am grateful for the time I have spent at Gentoo Media and look forward to contributing to a smooth transition during the coming period.”
