Scientific Games’ responsible gambling initiatives certified by WLA

Scientific Games Corporation (SG) has received international certification for its responsible gambling operations by the World Lottery Association (WLA).

Covering the five continents in which SG maintains a commercial presence, the Responsible Gaming Framework Certificate of Alignment accredits the firm’s lottery activities across both retail and digital products and services.

The accreditation was secured by SG following an auditing process of its continuous improvement to responsible gaming practises, conducted by an “independent, international panel with expertise in corporate social responsibility”.

Carla Schaefer, VP of Responsible Gaming for Scientific Games Lottery, said: “Scientific Games is honoured to receive WLA’s Responsible Gaming Certification, which recognizes our ongoing commitment to Healthy Play across our global lottery organisation.

“We want to give our lottery customers tools and best practises to help them market their products in healthy and responsible ways. Our Healthy Play program helps lotteries educate their players, establish trust and increase lottery literacy.”

Notable SG responsible gambling initiatives include ‘Healthy Play’, a programme coordinated to promote healthy enjoyment of games through player education.

The global effort saw the development of lottery employee responsible gaming training, customised in content and multiple languages to raise awareness and understanding of healthy, responsible lottery play across the company.

Furthermore, the programme saw the launch of the ‘Healthy Play Guide’ digital magazine, which was made available to lotteries to promote and outline the initiative and responsible gambling tools.

“In the global lottery industry, Scientific Games has truly established its leadership role in responsible gaming,” remarked Mélissa Azam, WLA Senior Corporate Social Responsibility Manager.

“The company’s Healthy Play program, which provides lotteries with real tools to support their own responsible gaming programs, demonstrates Scientific Games integration of the WLA Responsible Gaming Principles throughout the organisation, and its investment in the future of the lottery industry.

“WLA is proud to support Scientific Games’ Global Responsible Gaming Certification and congratulates the company on its longstanding and continued commitment to responsible gaming.”

Moving forward into 2022, SG aims to expand its Healthy Play programme to include a website, customisable for individual lotteries and accessible by lottery stakeholders via a QR code.

The certification follows the sale of SG’s SG Lottery unit to Brookfield Business Partners and its institutional partners in October of last year for a consideration of $6.05 billion.
