Tipwin lauds ‘perfect execution’ of Merkur Bets retail upgrade in Germany

Tipwin has achieved a major commercial objective in 2025 modernising completing the modernisation of Merkur betting shops in Germany in record time and ahead of all corporate expectations.

The partnership, launched at the start of 2025, saw Merkur Bets appoint Tipwin to overhaul and expand its nationwide network of betting shops. The objective was to bring every retail site under one unified identity of “Merkur Bets powered by Tipwin” — combining Merkur’s consumer trust with Tipwin’s retail systems and operational technology.

Today, more than 90% of Merkur’s retail locations have been upgraded, creating one of the most integrated and technologically advanced sports betting networks in Germany. The modernisation has spanned several Bundesländer, including North Rhine-Westphalia, Hesse, Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony and Bavaria, with further upgrades planned through 2026.

The project leverages Merkur’s established retail footprint and Tipwin’s technology infrastructure to deliver a seamless, consistent customer experience across Germany’s land-based betting market.

Dr. Damir Böhm – Tipwin

Speaking to SBC, Dr. Damir Böhm, CEO of Tipwin, described the achievement as a landmark moment for both companies:

“Tipwin-powered ‘Merkur Bets’ is a winning combination for multiple stakeholders — an established and trusted brand backed by high-quality products and technology. We’re combining the strength of a collective enterprise that sets standards across Europe with the agility and energy of a family-owned business.”

Böhm added that the cooperation has significantly expanded Tipwin’s retail footprint, reinforcing its position among Germany’s leading sports betting operators. He noted that the partnership would open further opportunities for B2B collaboration, product innovation, and compliance alignment.

Building on a unified network

All upgraded venues now operate under the shared Merkur Bets powered by Tipwin brand, creating a unified visual and operational identity. The new network integrates betting terminals, registration processes, and back-office systems into a single technology stack, improving reliability and enabling faster product development.

Franchise partners benefit from centralised brand management, standardised processes, and coordinated technical support. This allows operators to deliver a modern, stable, and efficient retail experience, while customers gain access to a broader product portfolio that differentiates the brand within the competitive German market.

The modernisation also strengthens regulatory compliance, with enhanced dataflows, system controls, and store oversight designed to meet evolving German gambling standards under the supervision of the Gemeinsame Glücksspielbehörde der Länder (GGL).

Smooth operator…

Philipp Duske, Managing Director of Avanti Sportwettvermittlung GmbH, praised the project’s execution: “We received great assistance from all involved — Tipwin, Merkur Bets, the Ministry of the Interior, OASIS-Darmstadt, Daniel Speyer’s team and our own. Clear responsibilities and tight timelines made the transition smooth. We were one of the first stores to switch without a single day of closure.

“The Tipwin betting system is very stable — registration and bet placements are easy and user-friendly. We take great pride in our collaboration with Tipwin and see this as a very positive step forward.”

Preparing for 2026 changes

The completion of Tipwin’s retail modernisation comes at a crucial point for the German betting sector, as the GGL prepares a full regulatory review in 2026 covering customer protection, advertising standards, and licence management.

With a unified brand, integrated systems, and enhanced compliance capabilities, Merkur Bets powered by Tipwin is well positioned to lead the next phase of retail modernisation in Germany — setting new benchmarks for player safety, operational efficiency, and market transparency.
