Flashscore sees ‘rapid engagement’ with new Follow Player tool
Livesport Media continues the upgrade and redesign of its heritage Flashscore app and portal by unveiling a customised Follow Player insights for football audiences.
The launch coincides with the start of the new European football season, as Flashscore brings new utilities and data to optimise engagement with its audience of more than 110 million users worldwide.
The new update lets fans track their favourite football stars in real time and is positioned as a core enhancement for new audiences who prefer athlete engagement over traditional match insights.
The update also brings a significant expansion in player-specific data, including expected goals (xG), passing accuracy and duels won — a step designed to meet growing demand from fans for deeper performance insights.
Audiences engagement has been rapid. Since the feature’s soft roll-out, 350,000 users have already followed at least one player, generating more than 2 million favourites in the first month.
As expected, Cristiano Ronaldo tops the global popularity list, ahead of Lionel Messi, teenage Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal, and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé. England’s Jude Bellingham makes the global top 10.
Meanwhile in the UK, Mo Salah ranks as the most-followed Premier League player, with Chelsea’s Cole Palmer and Liverpool’s new signing Alexander Isak also breaking into the top tier.
Tomáš Pondělík, Chief Product Officer at Flashscore, said the upgrade marks a turning point in fan engagement: “Fandom is evolving and we’re seeing a significant shift from fans following only their favourite teams to a deeper interest in individual players. Our community has been asking for this feature for some time, but we wanted to launch it at the right moment, when we had the strongest player data on the market.”
He added that more enhancements are already in the pipeline: “We’ll be expanding to basketball and hockey later this year, alongside new notifications and richer player insights. With Follow Player, fans can finally track their football heroes in real time — and this is just the beginning.”
Flashscore and LiveScore will showcase the new feature as principal sponsors of the SBC Legends Charity Game in Lisbon, raising funds for the Red Cross and international partners to support communities affected by conflict and war.
