GambleAware bolsters leadership team to match new national service commitments
GambleAware has recruited two new senior public health executives as part of an extensive leadership reorganisation to deliver on the RET commitments of its new strategy.
Updating stakeholders, GambleAware confirmed the appointment of Anna Hargrave as the charity’s new Chief Commissioning Officer, charged with overseeing the expansion of the National Gambling Treatment Service.
A 13-year NHS executive, Hargrave is the former Chief Strategy and Transformations officer for NHS South Warwickshire.
GambleAware highlighted Hargrave’s proven track record and in the management and execution of multi-stakeholder public health programmes and projects.
“I am deeply passionate about reducing health inequalities in the UK and minimising the impacts of gambling harm on people and their families is a key component of this,” Hargrave commented.
“I look forward to working with charities and other public health agencies, local authorities and organisations to help reduce gambling harms.”
The progress of GambleAware’s RET commitments will now be led by Alexia Clifford, who will serve as the charity’s new Chief Communications Officer (CCO).
Clifford joins GambleAware’s leadership team from Public Health England, where she formally served as Marketing Director – spearheading high-impact nationwide campaigns for mental health awareness, physical activity, healthy eating and smoking cessation.

“I look forward to bringing my skills and expertise to this crucial public health priority, and to leading communications and marketing programmes that make a demonstrable contribution to improving people’s lives.
The Charity will complete its executive team transformation, by announcing the appointment of a new Chief Operations Officer, with further senior recruits fulfilling the key duties of – Research, Information and Knowledge Director; Head of Programme and Project Management; Prevention and Evaluation lead and a new director for Fundraising services.
GambleAware trustees stated that all new hires were indicative of the step change GambleAware is making to deliver an integrated and strategic plan to help prevent gambling harms in Great Britain.
