Genius Sports lands major partnership in the country of football
Genius Sports will deploy its Semi-Automatic Offsite (SAOT) tech across 27 top-flight Brazilian stadiums over the next two seasons.
The partnership will see the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) implementing the tactical football analysis system across the stadiums of all teams that will compete in the Serie A Brasileirão football league throughout 2026 and 2027.
Genius Sports’ SAOT deploys a tracking system and real-time analysis that will be integrated with the league’s VAR technology, providing an in-depth look into situations that can be difficult to assess with a naked eye.
Additional tech features include player, referee and ball tracking system, as well as a tactical and performance analysis platform.
Samir Xaud, CBF President, commented: “We are taking another decisive step in the process of modernizing Brazilian football. The arrival of semi-automatic impediment is not only a technological innovation, but a concrete measure to increase the accuracy, transparency and credibility of arbitration decisions.
“It is a movement aligned with what is most advanced in world football, and the CBF will continue working to ensure that our competitions are a reference in quality and justice.”
With the full rollout expected to conclude by 10 January, Genius will equip each stadium with 24 dedicated cameras, exclusive on-site data servers, and a low-latency infrastructure that provides a minimum connection of 700 Mbps and up to 1000 Mbps for SAOT devices.
Genius Sports itself will be subjected to a multitude of international compliance frameworks just to be able to operate on the premises, including the General Data Protection Act, the anti-corruption clause FCPA, the UK Bribery Act, as well as the Brazilian Football Code of Ethics.
Netto Góes, President of Brazil’s National Arbitration Working Group, added: “The implementation of SAOT represents a milestone for Brazilian arbitration. The Working Group was born precisely to promote structural and consistent advances, and this partnership with Genius is a clear example of this goal.
“It is a robust system, auditable and adherent to FIFA standards, which will directly contribute to reducing errors, qualifying decisions and strengthening the confidence of all those involved in the game.”
Front-and-centre expansion in LatAm
This marks the latest partnership in a list of similar strategic expansion deals for Genius across Latin America.
In Brazil, the technology provider teamed up with Rei do Pitaco, the market’s leading fantasy sports platform. Genius Sports is charged with powering Rei do Pitaco ongoing online sportsbook expansion.
Most recently, the firm partnered with Rei do Pitaco, a Brazilian fantasy sports platform which will now strengthen its sportsbook offering with official Genius Sports data streams from international competitions, including the Brasileirão Série A.
The SAOT tech will also make an appearance at the two CONMEBOL finals this November, where Genius will work alongside audiovisual firm MEDIAPRO to enhance the viewing experience for both the Copa Sudamericana Final (22 November) and the Copa Libertadores Final (29 November).
