Racing and Sports invests in trading team as sites set on global growth
Having taken its products and solutions live across multiple markets, Racing and Sports (RTH) is pumping some cash into its trading division to set the stage for further expansion.
The Australian B2B tech firm has been targeting the British horse racing scene in particular, an understandable decision given that horse racing is still the second most bet on sport in the UK after football.
British racing is not its only focus, however, having identified opportunities across various European markets. The company has set itself the goal of delivering price lines, data, flexible integrations and real-time risk management to operators of varying sizes.
To support this, the firm has invested in its trading team with some new hires, stating that this is a necessary move if it is to deliver its round-the-clock racing product – and the team, tools and coverage needed to support this ambition.
“We’ve built a platform that traders want to work with and operators want to launch with,” said Jack Kelliher, Commercial Director, following the hiring of Dean Hizzett, Alex Ashton and Jarrod Lenihan.
“The addition of Dean, Alex and Jarrod speaks volumes about the direction we’re heading. Great people. Great tools. Great results. 2025 is shaping up nicely.”
Who are the newcomers?
The new additions to RTH’s trading team reflect the company’s international focus, particularly its orientation towards horse racing in its home market of Australia and new key market of the UK.
Jarrod Lenihan joins the Australia team as a Trader, where he will likely work closely with the rest of the RTH workforce in the Australian capital of Canberra. The company took particular note of Lenihan’s experience with bet365 and his time working as analyst for professional bettor Sean Bartholomew.
Back in the UK, Dean Hizzett and Alex Ashton join as a Trader and Trading Operations Lead, respectively. Both previously worked at Flutter Entertainment, with Hizett working in racing compilation and trading for its UK-market leading Sky Bet brand.
Ashton, meanwhile, was Operational Lead for horse racing at Flutter Entertainment. The duo’s new employer has highlighted their combined experience of racing risk management, performance optimisation, product strategy, customer experience and cross-platform delivery.
James King, Global Head of Trading, said: “To continue growing, you need great tools and great people to use them. Dean, Alex and Jarrod each bring a unique set of skills, and their arrival reflects our ambition to deliver the most flexible and high-performing trading service in the market. This is only the beginning of what’s to come.”
